Youth sailing with EAST

EAST welcomes young people with a wide range of different needs to come and try sailing as a new experience. We encourage young people to learn and develop new skills, which may lead to Royal Yachting Association qualifications, and to gain social confidence while mixing, both on and off the boats, with sailors and volunteers of all ages.

For some of our young sailors, going sailing is a leisurely sensory experience out on the beautiful River Orwell. Parents/carers are welcome to accompany young people with higher needs.

Our accessible EAST centre is equipped with a ceiling track hoist and changing bed when needed, and we have hoists on our pontoon to enable sailors with mobility issues to get on board our very safe Sonar keelboats. We have a galley in the EAST centre which is very popular, providing drinks, snacks and hot meals before and after most sailing sessions.

Young EAST sailing sessions for those aged about 9 years and upwards take place regularly on fortnightly Saturdays, with morning sessions primarily for young people keen to learn to sail, and afternoons for leisure sailing. We also have groups of young people from schools and other organisations on some weekdays throughout the sailing season.
