What a wonderful time we had on the September cruise! Alright, it was rather too gusty and the wind wasn’t quite in the right direction, but it was warm and dry, and the admiral and skippers soon came up with another plan to ensure many happy hours of sailing.
We also enjoyed a range of French-related activities, my favourite being the boules tournament, as it got us outside moving about and meant that our sighted crew had to be blindfolded to take part, always cause for a laugh!
We had a great mix of novice VI crew along with the more seasoned ones like me! It was a real privilege to observe the lovely sighted crew encouraging the VIs to gain their confidence in handling the yachts, tying knots and generally learning more about the art of sailing! It was also fantastic to see sighted crew increase their awareness of supporting VI crew, skills that they can take forward through the rest of their lives.
Being part of the EAST VI cruising section is akin to being in a large, happy family, who care about each other and love to have fun. We all love to see others flourish and look forward to time with old friends and making new ones on the cruises. Everyone is expected to play their part, but no one is expected to do anything they don’t feel comfortable with. If you are considering joining a VI cruise, I would definitely recommend it*. It gives me a chance to refresh while learning new skills and I am grateful to all involved for giving me such an opportunity.
*Editors note: 2025 VI event dates will appear on the website as soon as they are confirmed.
