Keelboat Sailing Underway

Updated: May 8

After a long winter, it's been great to finally start our keelboat sailing sessions again although after sailing in shorts and t-shirts for the first week, the biting northerly winds quickly gave us a reminder that spring can be a mixed bag weatherwise when back on the water on the 6th May, so wrapping up warm was definitely the order of the day!

This is why we do what we do! Hannah is quadriplegic and non verbal due to having Cerebral Palsy, so she needs to be hoisted into one of our special seats adapted especially for our Sonars. Hannah has been sailing with EAST for a number of years now, and as you can see, she adores being out on the water!

What a difference a week makes in the British weather! Tantrum begins her passage down river towards Felixstowe with Levington in the background on a cold cloudy May 6th. This boat is one of the Sonars that once took part in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio with Team GB!

If you'd like to sail keelboats with EAST, we'd love to hear from you. Just send us an email with your details and other information to sailoradmin@e-a-s-t.org.uk or leave us a voice message on 0333 0883278 and we'll get back to you as soon as we can (please allow a few days for a phone reply).

Once again the year is shaping up to be a busy one with volunteers providing crew for Sonar's and our safety boats, as well as providing excellent food in the galley ready for when everyone comes ashore.

We are always looking for volunteers to help in a number of areas at EAST, so if you think you can help in the galley or in any other capacity we would love to hear from you. You can email us at volunteersupport@e-a-s-t.org.uk or leave a voicemail message for us on 03330 883278.
