The Presidential Honours .....

No, not news about Trump, something much more important. After more than 25 years of dedication and hard work, our President, Bill Smith has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in The Queen's birthday honours list.

Bill deservedly received this award for his tireless energy and commitment as one of the founding members of our Charity over 25 years ago. Bill was also responsible for setting up the East Coast Cruise for Blind and Visually Impaired Sailors. Since then Bill has worked with others to improve the opportunities for both young people and adults with a wide range of disabilities to experience the joys of sailing. Under Bill's guidance, EAST has continued to grow into a respected RYA Recognised Training Centre and Sailability Centre of Excellence.

Bill would like it to be known that he has accepted this award on behalf of all EAST members, Volunteers, Sailors and Friends of EAST who have helped him over the years.

Pat will be off dress shopping and Bill will wear a new pair of sailing shoes to the palace. William Smith MBE will continue to be known as Sir, William, Mr President or ... just Bill as he's always been to us all.

Congratulations Bill, well deserved, next stop...
