PROJECT VISION 2012

Following the IOC having granted London the right to run the Olympic & Paralympic Games in 2012 EAST is introducing a professionally organised programme of small boat race training for those members with disabilities who aspire to gaining places in the GBR sailing team.

Project 2012 will be a 3 X two year programme starting in the Spring of 2006 utilising, improving and extending the existing training facilities at Suffolk Yacht Harbour in order to increase the capacity and quality of sail boat race training.

The initial two year programme will identify those disabled competitors who have realistic potential to achieve consideration for team places in addition to providing regular opportunities for Vision 2012 members to race in small sailboats against both disabled and able bodied competitors.

The first stage of Vision 2012 will :

Modify the existing fleet of five Squib Keelboats

Cover travel costs of disabled members and volunteers

Provide professional race coaching to National standards.

Provide appropriate fitness training sessions.

Liaise with National & Regional Charities & Governing Bodies
