For the second year running Barbara Dutch (Cruise co-ordinator and Secretary) completed an excellent job in organising the 2013 VI sailing programme. The VI Cruising Committee wish to thank Barbara for all of her hard work.

Three cruises were completed in 2013 as follows:-

May long weekend organised by Admiral Ian Jewry: 9 yachts and their skippers, 15 sighted crew, 8 crew with visual impairment.
Destinations: Brightlingsea, Woolverstone, SYH.
The Summer Cruise organised by Admiral Ian Jewry: 4 yachts and their skippers, 6 sighted crew, 6 crew with visual impairment.
Destinations: Ramsgate, Boulogne, Ramsgate, Shotley, Ipswich, SYH
We made it to Boulogne!!! This was a great event after several years of trying to get across the channel and having to turn back from Ramsgate. A day was spent visiting the town as well as the Chateau and various hostelries. The return to Ramsgate was quite exciting in places i.e. it was fortunate that all boats had radar to help navigate safely across the shipping lanes in rain and fog.
The final Saturday dinner was eaten on board Sulis in Ipswich Marina. A last evening meal for 17 people under the cockpit cover was a bit cramped, but fun.
September taster weekend organised by Admiral David Vasey: 6 yachts and their skippers, 14 sighted crew, 5 crew with visual impairment. This was a first time with EAST for 10 of the group including one new skipper with his yacht.
Destination: Titchmarsh Marina where we had a barbeque supper on the green. Well done to chef David Vasey for doing all the cooking by torchlight.

Cruise Dates for 2014.
Spring Weekend in May (15th-18th) - some sailing experience is desirable, but not essential.

A nine day cruise in July (11th-20th) - significant sailing experience is preferable as some passages may be quite long and weather conditions can be variable.

A two day weekend in September (12th-14th) - this is aimed at those who would like to try a 'taster weekend' or have little experience of sailing.

Participants should be over 18 years of age; be in good general health, and have the ability to board and get around the yacht in all weather conditions.

We’re VERY keen to get more EAST members to participate in yachting so if interested please contact Barbara at
