Keelboat Sailing for Adults

EAST aims to provide a range of sailing experiences for adults with disabilities in a friendly atmosphere together with in house training by our RYA qualified Volunteer Instructors and Skippers.

Our current fleet consists of nine Squibs, two Sonar’s and two Yeoman Keelboats. All stable boats perfectly suited for sailors of any ability to enjoy the experience of sailing on the River Orwell. Each boat is manned by an experienced Skipper and crew providing full support for those will little or no sailing experience.

Our two modern, fully equipped RIB's, EAST Support and Just William, give essential safety cover when the fleet is sailing ensuring everyone is safe whilst having fun.

The sailing season for us commences in April through to mid September for evening sailing and continues through to October weather permitting for daytime sailing.

We have regular Tuesday afternoon sessions which commence at 1330hrs. Our regular Tuesday and Wednesday evening sailing sessions are for our adult disabled sailors and their supporters. These sessions commence at 17.30hrs. We are able to provide waterproof clothing and life jackets.

On the pontoon we have a hoist for assisting those who require help into the boats, this is manned by especially trained volunteers.

We welcome new sailors into our group whatever their level of sailing experience.

During the winter season when our fleet is out of the water, our well equipped training room and workshop facilities at the EAST Waterside Community Centre provide opportunities to participate in boat and equipment maintenance and to be able to learn new skills in a friendly atmosphere.
