March 2018- RYA East Region Instructor Training Day

Sunday morning 11th March saw 10 EAST Volunteers having the opportunity to sail 3 EAST Squibs, - Eastern Promise, Margaret & Aiming High, together with East Support Rib up a very calm dull and quiet River Orwell to help facilitate the RYA East Region Instructor Training Day taking place at RHS Holbrook, Alton Water and RHYC Woolverstone.

After an uneventful but enjoyable passage up river the boats were safely moored alongside the RHYC pontoon, EAST volunteers were collected by Minibus and transported to Royal Hospital School Holbrook for a free lunch before being returned to Woolverstone to observe and provide support where needed for the afternoon Instructor training session before returning to Levington in the late afternoon.

During the afternoon session Instructors from several RYA Training Centers from all over the East Anglia took part in various exercises sailing and maneuvering our boats up, down and across the river during a structured training session run by two RYA Coaches while other activity sessions with power boats were also taking place at the same time on the river. Although the wind was only blowing around 4-6 knots and the session started under persistent rain clouds the event proved popular and successful. Thanks to The EAST Maintenance crew who had worked hard during February to prepare and launch the boats into Suffolk Yacht Harbour in time for the event.
